CIU Provides Basic First Aid Training to Lifeguard Teams

A Basic First Aid Training program was organized in collaboration with the Cyprus International University (CIU) Vocational School of Health Sciences and the Cyprus International University Continuing Education Center (CIUSEM) for lifeguard teams working at Güçver Water Sports Club and along the coastline of Famagusta. During the 18-hour training program, participants had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in responding to emergencies through both theoretical and practical sessions.

The training was conducted by Lecturer Kadir Çekiç, Head of the First and Emergency Aid Program at the CIU Vocational School of Health Sciences, and Lecturer Elif İlkhan, an instructor in the First and Emergency Aid Program. A total of 16 lifeguards participated in the program, which was prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the First Aid Regulation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye.

The program covered a range of topics, including scene assessment, approaching patients and injured persons, basic life support, the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), intervention for airway obstructions, bleeding, trauma, fractures and dislocations, poisoning, and first aid procedures to be applied in emergency situations.

During the practical sessions, participants received hands-on training in basic life support for adults, children, and infants; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); interventions for foreign-body airway obstructions; the Rautek manoeuvre; and patient transportation techniques. Participants who successfully completed the training were entitled to receive first aid certificates.
